Atiku wins Buhari’s Katsina, defeats Tinubu, Kwankwaso, Obi


The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has defeated his main co-contender, Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State.

Atiku polled a total of 489,041 votes, according to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) collation officers for the 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

INEC officials at the state collation centre announced that Atiku won in 13 local government areas, while Tinubu won in 21, with a total of 482,283 votes.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, polled 2,368 in the council while the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, polled 78.

Other presidential candidates’ results are as follows: A 255, AA 523, AAC 234, ADC 1405, ADP 1798, APGA 1391, APM 603, APP 269, BP 327, NRM 1053, PRP 1986, SDP 339, YPP 1029 and ZLP 371.

The results announced by the INEC collation officers also showed that Atiku won in Batsari, Mashi, Kurfi, Dutsinma, Batagarawa, Kusada, Mani, Kankia, Kankara, Bakori, Jibia, Katsina, and Safana.

Tinubu, on the other hand, won in Matazu, Kaita, Musawa, Ingawa, Charanchi, Dutsi, Sandamu, Dandume, Sabuwa, and Funtua.

The results also indicated that the APC’s presidential candidate prevailed in the communities of Danmusa, Rimi, Maiadua, Bindawa, Baure, Zango, Danja, Faskari, and Malumfashi.

The state returning officer, however, noted that the presidential election results were cancelled in certain polling units in Baure, Danmusa, Dutsinma, Funtua, Kafur, Kankara, Katsina, Kurfi, Kusada, Mai’adua, Malumfashi, Mashi, Sabuwa and Safana LGAs.

He said the cancellations were due to thuggery, insecurity, resistance, violence, and obstruction.
