Egypt is not just a nation in Africa. In a spiritual sense, EGYPT is God’s metaphor for a SATANIC, TYRANNICAL STRONGHOLD that seeks to hold its victims in a chokehold until they die!
This metaphor is very well expressed in the story of how the Israelites lived, suffered, and eventually escaped from Egypt.
The sojourn in Egypt started well. But it was just a matter of time before Egypt bared its fangs against the Israelites (Exodus 1:8-11). And, by that time, escape was extremely difficult. Almost impossible.
Impossible, until God appeared on the scene and executed an astounding, miraculous escape for His people. But as He led His people Home to the Promised Land, alas, the spirit of Egypt followed them closely!!!
How do we know this? Well, it is quite evident in the words of the Israelites at a time of difficulty in the wilderness, “… Who shall give us flesh to eat? WE REMEMBER the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick….” (Numbers 11:4-5) Imagine that!!! On the way to FREEDOM from the slavery of over 400 years, they were thinking fondly of the food in the land of SLAVERY!!! This is the SPIRIT OF EGYPT at work.
The Israelites said more. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks:
“Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” (Exodus 14:12)
“And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full….” (Exodus 16:3)
And, indeed, according to their words, these stiff-necked people DIED IN EGYPT! Though it was in the wilderness that their physical bodies eventually fell and was buried! Out of the estimated three million people that left Egypt, only TWO men – Joshua and Caleb – (apart from the under-20s) made it into the Promised Land (Numbers 32:11-12)! The rest perished in the wilderness. This is the ruthlessness of the spirit of Egypt.
Even the leader of God’s Exodus from Egypt, Moses, was consumed in the maddening agitation of the freed slaves that wanted to go back to Egypt!
What is the moral of the story?
When God delivers a believer from the Egypt of the church of today, the spirit of Egypt does NOT want that believer to leave the church system spirit, soul, and body. The spirit of Egypt seeks to attach itself firmly to any unwary pilgrim.
Thus, as such pilgrims ‘follow’ Jesus in the narrow way (in the SIMPLICITY OF CHRIST – 2 Cor 11:3), they soon begin to do EXACTLY what the children of Israel did in the wilderness!
They’ll start longing for the FOOD OF EGYPT! The food of captivity. They’ll start pining for the ‘splendour’ and ‘freedom’ of the church system – its false doctrines, its magnificent cathedrals, its glitterati, its music, its fun, its teeming mass of jolly people, the ear-tickling messages that massage the ego and serenade the spirit, etc.
This is because, in truth, their hearts NEVER left Egypt! In the heart of their hearts, these are SONS OF EGYPT!!! Many of them left Egypt when that seemed to be the in-thing among the TRUE children of God. So, they left too. But their hearts never left home. Never left Egypt.
Therefore, the SPIRIT OF EGYPT hunts them on the way to the Promised Land. And claims their souls in the wilderness as they grumble in their hearts in way of Christ.
Thus, one-by-one, they’ll fall and perish in the way. Until ONLY God’s Joshua and Caleb are left to lead the charge into the Promised Land.
Please always remember this: EGYPT does not want its victims to escape. Ever.
So, if God is using you in this end-time to send His truth to His TRUE church, REMEMBER MOSES! “They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that IT WENT ILL WITH MOSES FOR THEIR SAKES: Because they PROVOKED his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips” (Psalm 106:32-33). They provoked him, and his mighty body fell with them in the wilderness.
So, beware!!! You can NEVER take the TOYS OF EGYPT away from the CHILDREN OF EGYPT. To attempt this is to start a fight. And that fight may consume you and consume your ministry! Please remember the words of Apostle Paul in 1 Cor 9:27, “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
In these days, many believers that are speaking the truth will be like bus conductors – they’ll shout themselves hoarse calling men into the bus. But when the bus leaves, the conductor would be left behind at the bus station!
And this is how they’ll become CASUALTIES OF EGYPT. The collateral damage in an intense war waged by the STRONGHOLD OF EGYPT that does not let its victims go.
Please listen. Please learn. Please chill in the SPIRIT OF MEEKNESS. For the greatest watchman is the one that watches himself FIRST.
Friend, if God has saved you from the church of today, please RUN VERY, VERY FAR AWAY from that deception. Don’t look back, and don’t hold on to its ways. For the SPIRIT OF EGYPT is soon coming to claim its own. And its ruthless efficiency in doing so is legendary.
So, please do not become a VICTIM OF EGYPT! This is why the Bible gives us this warning in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be SOBER, be VIGILANT; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour….”
May he not find you in Jesus’ name. Amen and Amen.

ANOTHER APPLICATION: Apart from the Egypt of the church system of today, this analogy is also applicable to when God rescues us from the Egypt of the world. The world also has a spirit of Egypt that does not want its victims to escape. And so, it loads them with the MIND OF EGYPT and the TOYS OF EGYPT to bring into the church of the Living God.
This is how they have today tried to turn the house of God into an EXTENSION OF EGYPT! Thankfully, God is today calling His JOSHUAs and CALEBs out of the corruption of the church system, back to Jesus Christ. Back to the narrow way that will NEVER, EVER accommodate the spirit of Egypt.
Please find this narrow way, and abide with Christ in it. His love is waiting for you.
