African Games: Nigeria’s 46-year wait for men’s football gold continues, lose 2-0 to Burkina Faso

Two first half goal – between seven minutes – condemned Nigeria’s Flying Eagles to a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in the final of the men’s football event at the African Games on Friday.

Paul Aigbogun’s men thus settled for a silver medal in the Games as the curtain falls on the 12th edition.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Paul Aigbogun’s charges conceded twice in the first half of the encounter played at the Stade Moulay Hassan.

Inspite of the spirited efforts to find their way back into the game, the Flying Eagles were unable to breach the Burkina Faso defence in the second half.

Nigeria has not won the event since 1973 and has now finished as runners up three times (1978,2003 and 2019).
