The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, have criticised President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s penchant for blaming others over its failure in governance.
In a statement issued yesterday, Dogara lamented that in the past few weeks, the President has been blaming others on daily basis in an attempt to exonerate himself from any blame or failure of the executive.
He added that Buhari, who had earlier blamed his predecessors and the Nigerian media, has again started blaming the National Assembly for his government’s inability to implement budgets and execute projects that affects the lives of Nigerians in the last three years.
His words: “President Buhari a few days ago in his usual characteristics of self-righteousness and buck-passing, blamed tardiness in the passage of budgets by the National Assembly for the delay in completion of projects across the country.
“Although buck passing and blame game is not new to Buhari, there is no day that passes without the President blaming others in a desperate move to exonerate himself from any blame or failure of the executive under his leadership to execute projects across the country.
“In the last few days, he had blamed all his predecessors for failing to build infrastructure. He blamed the media for failing to showcase his achievements and he has again, blamed the National Assembly for his government’s inability to implement budget and execute projects in the last three years.
“Since assuming office, he has been unable to present the budget on time. His first budget was the 2016 budget, which was submitted on December 22, 2015, exactly nine days to the end of the fiscal year.”
Besides, the PDP has described the President’s interview on Tuesday as “a resort to blame game and false performance claims to cover up his administration’s failures and incompetence.
Its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement said the party also indicted Buhari for failing to use his orchestrated interview to give account of ‘the trillions stolen under his watch in the last four years.’
The PDP noted that critical sectors in the country performed abysmally in the last four years because of the administration’s incompetence, adding: “It is unfortunate that instead of accepting responsibility for the failures of his administration, Mr. President is looking for scapegoats where there are none.”
Meanwhile, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has charged President Buhari to take responsibility for his failure to live up to expectations of Nigerians.
In a statement yesterday, he urged the President to stop his blame games, face reality for once and apologise to Nigerians for leading ‘a calamitous regime of pain and penury’.
He wondered why the President prefers to always blame his incompetence on Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Dogara and others.
