The Nigerian export promotion council has commenced an awareness programme on hazard analysis critical control point.
The aim is to improve market access for exporters of processed foods.
The European union rejected several food items and banned 67 processed and semi processed foods originating from Nigeria between 2015 and 2016.
They cited poor quality, contamination and high levels of chemicals in the preserved products as the rationale behind this action.
It is against this backdrop that the Nigerian export promotion council put together a training designed to increase awareness about the basic rudiments of food safety for non oil export portfolio.
This move is to further encourage exporters to attain full certification through a conformity assessment body as well as ease global market entry for Nigerian products.
Hazard analysis critical control point is a tool to assess hazards and establish control systems that focus on prevention rather than relying mainly on end product testing.
